Adelante Miami FC! Arriba Strickers!!!

Atletico Nacional USA: Soccer and Values

The Colombian team arrives in South Florida

The Colombian soccer now has its representative in South Florida. Fernando García, President of Atlético Nacional USA, states the team is training hard and has big goals for the future. In a short time, they have succeeded in getting many young people to become part of the club and embrace its values and playing style.

How did the idea emerge to have an Atlético Nacional official Club in Miami?
The Colombian team interviewed us five years ago. They realized that we were ready to be the official club of Atlético Nacional in Miami.

What is the club’s vision?
Educating through sport, our work is based on values. We encourage young people to have good nutrition. We also encourage them to love the team.

What are the club’s goals for the next tournaments?
We want to be part of The Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA), we are in the first stage of the process in this moment. We are thinking big for the future.

How old do children have to be in order to start with soccer?
We accept children from the age of 3 and a half to 16. We also have a U-20 team and an adult team which represent us in South Florida.

Yes, in fact, we ask them to bring a fruit because it is important to eat a fruit after a training session.

What does the club offer to the children’s families?
They see something very different in this club: we emphasize the importance of school. When a child is not doing very well, we help him improve his school performance; and we have achieved it.

All of them are professional coaches.

Will the club have a tournament in Miami?
Yes, the tournament will take place from December 4 to 8, several teams from different countries will participate in the tournament.

Paris Saint-Germain Academy: Bienvenue a Florida

The French team has its official academy in Florida

The PSG team has been well received by teenagers and their parents, because it is one of the best teams in Europe. The club is the official Academy of the Paris Saint-Germain FC (PSG) in Florida providing the genuine and innovative PSG Programs designed for the top players of the world. PSG Academy has a very good structure as far as training and shaping kids starting on U7 up to U19. Julian Pedraza, the PSG Academy Director, assures that they follow a special program in the training created by PSG in Paris for their Academies outside of France. (Los Angeles, Canada, and Miami). They also send evaluations of the kids from time to time. Twice a year.

Vision

The team’s style of playing is keeping possession of the ball and building their game from the back, characteristics that are very proper of the PSG. Pedraza says, “We are an Academy that is just starting, but we have over 30 Teams already registered in Florida; we receive kids of different ages, including players who are not easy to correct due to their ages, because they were shaped and trained in other place. But we try to do our best with all categories. The best ages to start are U6 and U7.

Qualities

Passion is the key that must be preserved in soccer. The PSG Academy´s Director says, “Nowadays there are three aspects you must analyze about a player: the physical, mental, tactical and technical areas. All of these are relevant, but the most important of all, is the desire to learn. There are small children that are developing their coordination and that might not learn as easily as others, but this doesn’t eliminate the chance they might also become good soccer players”.

Experience

Julian Pedraza started his career playing in the Millionarios reserve team in Bogota and in Once de Caldas in Colombia. Then he had the opportunity to travel to play in Europe. During the 20 years that he lived in Europe, he went from being a player to becoming a coach. He has the UEFA A Diploma, one of the highest level diplomas in the UEFA zone.

“In Europe, I learned a different soccer culture. In Latin America, soccer is more technical and paused, and in Europe it is a faster, more direct and efficient kind of game. I had the opportunity of studying in Belgium, one of the countries that best teaches how to form soccer players. I studied during 4 years over there, you don’t get this in one week, we studied different subjects that included practice and theory.”

Tournament in Paris

Every year, in the month of May, all of the PSG Academies located in different countries such as Morocco, Brazil, Canada, India, United States, meet in Paris to play the “PSG Academy Cup” tournament. The PSG Academy Florida went last year to Paris to participate in the U10, U11 and U12 categories, and are already getting prepared for the next opportunity!
“Passion for soccer is born with you. You either have it or not.”

FBS-FC: Goals on the Beach

Beach soccer keeps growing in South Florida

Sun, sea, sand and goals: there is no better setting for playing soccer. Beach soccer is a variant of soccer played on a beach or some form of sand. Beach soccer started in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and now it is an international sport that has taken hold in South Florida. Soccerplus was with Edgar Uribe of FBS-FC, who expressed the following ideas:

How many players does the Beach Soccer Club have?
The club serves around 175 children between ages 8 to 15.

How do players prepare physically for beach soccer?
Physical training takes at least 20 minutes. We also focus on technical training because it is crucial for the game of soccer.

What skills does a child who plays beach soccer develop?
The player mostly learns to run in the sand, ball control and the physical and technical aspects of the game.

Does the club hold any Beach Soccer tournament?
Yes, our club holds an international tournament in Fort Lauderdale to which we invite several of the surrounding clubs.

As the regional Beach Soccer qualifiers draw near, how do you think the U.S. National team stands?
The federation is currently being restructured and is bringing in many players. We have four players from South Florida and some other players from Virginia, Washington, California, and different areas as part of the same process of restructuring. I think we are doing very well and these changes are putting us on the track to reach our goal.

Are there any Florida or FBS players on the National Team?
At the moment, three FBS players are part of the National Team: Marcos, Aldo, Francis and I.

What has your career been like so far?
I have played for Santos from Brazil, Seattle Sander, FBAC and I’ve played for the U.S. National Team for several years. I have played at Brazilian championships, “mundialitos” and the America Cup. I have been among the top ten of the world.

Tattoos: Think before you ink

What you need to know about the potential health risks

Tattoos can take any number of forms and appear in all kinds of spots on the body. They have become more and more popular in recent years. However, before making the decision to modify your body, it is essential to understand the possible side effects associated with tattooing.

Allergic reaction

The body’s response to tattoos can vary from a serious inflammatory reaction to allergic hypersensitivity. Tattoo pigment, mainly red, blue, green and yellow, can provoke allergic skin reactions, such as an itchy rash at the tattoo area. This may occur years after getting the tattoo.

Bloodborn diseases

Several medical conditions can result from tattooing. Bloodborne diseases, such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and tetanus can be contracted by employing contaminated tattoo needles that haven’t been sterilized. To diminish the risk of spreading pathogens, tattoo artists must use sanitized equipment.

Colorings

More than 50 colorings utilized in tattoos have been accepted for use in cosmetics, but the risk of injecting them underneath the skin is ambiguous. The long-term consequences of tattoo ink and colorings are still unknown. Until now, no regulatory agency has closely inspected the safety of tattoo ink.

Skin problems

The two most common dermal reactions to tattoo pigments are skin infections and granulomas, a condition that is characterized by bumps appearing around tattoo ink. Furthermore, tattooing may result in keloids, which are even, hard, benign growths that develop when scar tissue grows significantly.

Rambo de León: “Soccer is universal”

Text: Linda Gutierrez

He grew up running around the streets, stealing coconuts and playing with the kids in his town. Now, Julio César de León, also known as Rambo, is an experienced and talented player who has proven to be an asset in México, China, Italy, Uruguay, Honduras and currently in USA, at the Miami United Team of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). And beyond that, his most important job is talking to young people and kids about how to stay away from drugs and bad habits.

What was it like for you when you joined Miami United?
The team was not doing very well when I arrived, but we were able to turn the situation around. Last season, we proved we are a tough team to play and we always go out to try to win.

What has your experience been like at Miami United?
We are a family. There are wonderful people in the team, the president Roberto Sacca and Carlos Oliva. Honestly, it is a great team with a spectacular technical staff.

What is the key to success in soccer?
For me, first of all, believing in Jesus, I am a person of faith. Humbleness is also very important, sacrifice and perseverance in every training.

Who inspired you to play soccer?
My father was a great defender in Honduras, I inherited from him the courage to play. My uncle, Pablo de León, was the one who stood out the most in soccer, I inherited his playing style.

What was your World Cup experience like?
It was great, it is every player’s dream. For me, the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games were a greater experience.

What kind of work do you do with kids and young people?
I visit many cities to talk to young people about soccer and the importance of discipline. I also emphasize that a player who stays away from drugs and bad habits can ensure a high performance life for years. I focus on the spiritual aspect because it is the key to success.

You played in Italy for many years, what memories do you have?
Italy touched my heart. I could tell many wonderful stories about Italy but also many painful ones because I experienced racism over there.
I spent my entire career there, I am well-known in Italy and there are people who remember me fondly. God willing, I am planning to return to Italy to study a professional coaching course in order to manage a team in Italy.

Argentina Claim Maiden Futsal Crown

Text: Fifa.com

Argentina defeated Russia 5-4 in a dramatic FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016 final in Cali to win the country’s first-ever Futsal World Cup title.

As finals usually go, there was a nervy air to the opening proceedings, with both sides hesitant to commit numbers forward and content to remain compact in defenceNot only that, but both nations were competing in a Futsal World Cup final for the first time, so the chance to make history was at stake. The match came to life with five minutes left in the first half when there was a quick exchange of goals, first from Russia’s Lima and then Argentina’s Vaporaki. Lima had his initial close-range shot blocked but he stuck with the play and his persistence paid off, as he was able to poke his effort past a helpless Nicolas Sarmiento.

Argentina, however, did not drop their heads and they immediately responded with a goal of their own through Vaporaki. Argentina then took the lead right before half-time when Cuzzolino tucked away a penalty.

The second half started with a bang and a Russian equaliser. Lima scored his ninth of the tournament when he turned Pablo Taborda and slammed home a fierce shot past Sarmiento. But before Russia could catch their breath, Argentina were back in front through Brandi, who scored from close range after Gustavo saved his initial shot. Just one minute later, Brandi extended Argentina’s lead to 4-2. Constantino Vaporaki then scored the decisive goal after a long spell of Russian possession and with the European side’s goal empty, as they were forced to push for a goal themselves. Dmitry Lyskov then managed to score one more for Russia late on before Lima became the first player in history to score a hat-trick in a Futsal World Cup final when he scored from the second penalty spot. However, their efforts came too late in the end and La Albiceleste were crowned world champions.

A Cat with 10 Lives

Jesus Purizaga, who earned the nickname of “El Gato” for his cat-like movements in his position as goalkeeper.

“El Gato” is a charismatic man, with a great sense of humor, cheerful and kind, who enjoys working with kids to shape them into good children, good students and therefore good athletes.

cat (1)

“El Gato” works with kids from different clubs who want to improve their individual performance, “everything is achieved through perseverance and consistency”, he says. “I’m not interested in whether they have 500 medals. What I want is for them to have a chance to go to college someday”, he remarks while moving his hands.

What progress have you seen in South Florida’s soccer since your arrival?
Most of the fields used to be for baseball until the arrival of Kendall Soccer Park. Over the last ten years, there are more soccer academies, soccer fields, and most of the boys and girls are of Latin American descent.

What do you think is the contribution of Latin American coaches who have come to work in Miami?
I have worked in the development of young individuals. There are two boys who are currently doing very well in soccer. One of them is playing for the English league second division and the other one is leaving to play for a Chelsea’s subsidiary team also in England.

What positions are you training the kids to play?
I coach all soccer positions. I also have a group only for goalkeepers.

Is being a keeper the hardest position on the field?
Yes, it’s the hardest, most unrewarding position. I’ve lived it, the goalkeeper is the crazy optimistic of the group. For instance, when a goal is scored, the goalkeeper can’t celebrate with his teammates. So he has to celebrate and scream by himself. On the other hand, a keeper can make numerous excellent saves during 89 minutes yet his one and only blunder makes him the villain.

What does it take to play as a goalie?
First of all, you must like being a goalie, must be willing to defend the team’s goal. In my case, I started out playing in goal at the age of 14. I was actually a forward, but I ended up between the posts.

What memories do you have from your professional career?
I have many good memories. From each team, I have a memory in my heart, but the one I feel deep in my heart, in my very blood, is UTC CAJAMARCA. The team gave me my first opportunity to succeed in life and buy a house for my wife and kids.

What is the key for success in soccer?
This is a country of opportunities. When I coach children, I don’t tell the parents his kid will end up playing for Real Madrid. We make progress once step at a time. A little kid must first make the team in middle shcool, then later in high school, and finally in college and once he has received his degree, he may start his soccer career.

“I tell my kids that soccer is like going to a party where you have fun, dance with the ball, but you have to do it responsibly”

Soccer and Friendship

A great family united by soccer

The traditional and powerful Banfield Club from Argentina has its subsidiary in USA. Hernan Infantino, the team’s president in Miami, remarks that they’ve been coaching boys and girls in South Florida for over a year. The project came up because of his children’s need of socialization. “I’m Argentinian, and so is my wife, and when we were kids the tradition was to play outside with other kids and that’s how we interacted with everyone.” Hernan says. The Banfield team in Miami has a total of 120 boys and girls from divisions U5 up to U13.

Vision

The Banfield Club’s vision is to implement, alongside soccer, a project for social interaction for children and their parents. After every sporting event, there is a social gathering to spend time with friends.

Nutrition

Additionally, Banfield Miami places great importance on nutrition. The kids learn about what to eat before, during and after playing soccer. Furthermore, the boys and girls receive advice on what they should eat before each practice and afterwards in order to recover, Infantino added.

Technology

“We will have an app for smartphones that boys and girls can use in order to train and learn soccer moves. In other words, it is like having a training session on your phone. We use the same technology of the Strikers and Miami FC to train and play competitively”, says Hernan. “It is a club for whoever wants to have fun playing a sport”
